INZARED, QUEEN OF THE ELEPHANT RIDERS

Ten days ago I wrote about Marketing Mayhem and how confused and frustrated I am by doing the whole promoting thing by myself.  I have been running my first KDP Select promotion for my birthday.  I offered INZARED, Queen of the Elephant Riders free for August 22 and 23.  I had no idea what to expect.

Although the numbers are making a little more sense now I wasn’t sure how they actually give the book credibility and sales.  I even asked on one of the groups I belong to how many books I should expect to give away during the free promotion.  The answer?  “It depends on genre, publicity, and days of the week.”

I want you to know that even as I have complained, been frustrated and tired, all the hard work paid off.  It is the morning of the second day of the free giveaway on Kindle.  Inzared currently ranks #3 in Family Saga and #3 in Historical free eBooks for Kindle on Amazon.com.  The book is #57 in Free Downloads – woo hoo!

I am amazed and humbled.  Who would have thought so many people would be interested in the subject matter and in something I wrote?  I am feeling validated as a writer, excited beyond my wildest expectations about the future of the series, and (tired!).

I guess it’s pretty hard not to wear yourself out doing all the work necessary for promotion, but I am here to tell you it’s the most important thing you’ll do for the success of your book.  While I started a couple of months ago to get ready, I still hadn’t done everything necessary.  I was given a link yesterday to Indie Review Tracker on one of my groups that was very helpful, even if in hindsight.  Next time I’ll be even more ready.

All I can say is don’t give up, get the word out and enjoy the ride.  I sure am!  I’m heading on over to the stats on Amazon – who knows what today will bring?
