Like many cooks, writers need to prepare their piece. Whether writing a book manuscript, news story, or magazine article, a writer puts ingredients together to make an intriguing story people want to read (or at least you hope they want to read!)

Stir together amazing characters and a fascinating plot for a book … or an interesting subject matter for a news story or magazine article.

Blend some romance, intrigue, or drama for the book … some controversy, important issue, or chef cooking illustrationliterary poise for the article.

Whip in fascinating dialogue, great quotes ….

Then simmer (put away for a time)…

And lastly stir (edit) ….

Result: Tasty manuscript! (although I wouldn’t recommend eating the pages!!)

Preparation leads to greatness … or at least to attempted greatness. Just a chef prepares ingredients for a fine meal, writers too must prepare.
